Overview
The Link Building retainer is our monthly engagement to earn editorial backlinks to your site through manual outreach. We treat your domain's reputation as a long-lived asset β everything we do is designed to compound, not to short-circuit Google's quality systems.
What we deliver each month
- 8 contextual editorial backlinks placed each calendar month β targets are vetted before outreach and reviewed before placement.
- Prospecting β bespoke publisher list for your niche, refreshed quarterly.
- Personalised outreach from human inboxes (no automation tools sending from your domain).
- Placement reporting β per-link record of publisher URL, domain authority, organic traffic estimate, surrounding context, and anchor used.
- Quarterly disavow review β we monitor your backlink profile and maintain a disavow file for toxic links (whether we built them or not).
- Optional digital PR + HARO/Qwoted pitching β included where a placement opportunity arises and is a good fit.
Volume targets quality. If a month yields fewer than 8 placements at our quality bar, we'll explain why and roll outstanding effort into the next cycle.
The quality bar
Every link we place must meet at least the following criteria:
- Real publication β a site with editorial standards, real authors, and its own organic traffic. No marketplaces, no link farms, no auto-publishers.
- Domain authority β₯ 30 (most fall between DA 40β70).
- Topical relevance β within your industry, an adjacent one, or a mainstream/regional publication where your story is genuinely newsworthy.
- Healthy backlink profile β no signs of PBN ownership, sudden link spikes, or known spam patterns.
- Contextual placement β link embedded in editorial body content, not a sidebar widget or footer link block.
What we won't do
- Private blog networks (PBNs) β never;
- Link farms or shared link networks;
- Paid links violating Google's spam policies;
- Reciprocal link exchanges at scale;
- Automated outreach with spammy templates;
- Comment spam, forum spam, or profile link spam;
- Hidden links, cloaked links, or sneaky redirects;
- Buying links from marketplaces (Authority Hacker, BlackHatWorld, etc.);
- Adult, gambling, or pharma cross-linking in non-relevant verticals.
If you'd like us to do any of the above β even with a budget that would otherwise be attractive β we'll politely decline and refund the unused portion of your retainer.
Anchor and target approval
Before outreach starts each month, you'll see:
- The list of target pages we'll be linking to;
- The anchor-text strategy (mix of branded, partial-match, exact-match, generic);
- Any pages or anchors you've told us to exclude.
We require sign-off on the anchor strategy because over-optimisation is the fastest way to trip Google's penalty thresholds. If you're not familiar with anchor distribution theory, we'll walk you through it on the kickoff call.
What we don't promise
- Specific publishers β editorial sites decide what they publish;
- Specific anchor placement in body copy;
- Ranking lift from any specific link;
- Indefinite link permanence β publishers occasionally remove links during site redesigns or editorial overhauls (we'll attempt re-placement at no cost);
- DA score stability β domain metrics fluctuate independently of our work.
Minimum term & billing
Link Building has a 3-month minimum term. Three months is also roughly how long it takes for placed links to compound into measurable ranking movement. After the minimum, the retainer continues month-to-month and can be cancelled with no notice.
Billing runs monthly via Stripe on the anniversary of your sign-up, in your local currency.
Reporting cadence
You receive a monthly link report by the first business day of the following month. It covers:
- Each placed link (publisher URL, DA, organic traffic, anchor, target page);
- Outreach metrics (pitches sent, response rate, decline reasons);
- Backlink profile growth (referring domains, total backlinks, anchor distribution);
- Toxic link findings and disavow updates;
- The plan for next month.
Your responsibilities
- Provide Search Console access (read-only is fine);
- Tell us about parallel link-building activity on the same domain;
- Don't buy links elsewhere without telling us β over-optimisation compounds;
- Approve the anchor strategy each quarter (we'll send it for review);
- Make sure the target pages we're linking to remain online and unchanged in URL.
Disavow and clean-up
We maintain a disavow file for your site as a standard part of the retainer β toxic links (whether we placed them or not) get added quarterly and submitted to Google Search Console.
If you arrived with a damaged backlink profile (prior agency, negative SEO, or self-inflicted), we can do a deeper clean-up as a one-time engagement. Quoted separately.
Cancellation
After the 3-month minimum, cancel any time via email or your dashboard. Outreach in progress completes through the end of the month; the next billing cycle does not run.
On cancellation, all placed links remain on the publishers' sites (they're not ours to remove). The disavow file is handed back to you.
Refunds
